Putting Americans Back to Work

Statement

On Wednesday, I was proud to join other Democratic Members of the House in calling for the immediate passage of the American Jobs Act. Our nation's families, workers, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, firefighters and veterans must not and cannot wait any longer. The American Jobs Act will create jobs, strengthen small businesses, rebuild America, and grow our economy now.

The American Jobs Act fits squarely with House Democrats' back-to-basics, ABCs plan to create jobs: Make It In America, Build America, and Community Recovery Corps. We are committed to strengthening our manufacturing, technological, and industrial base, putting people to work rebuilding our roads, bridges and railways, and speeding up rebuilding assistance to local communities affected by recent natural disasters.

After more than 250 days in the majority, House Republicans have yet to produce a clear jobs agenda. They now have the opportunity to change course, to pass the American Jobs Act, and to put the American people back to work. Congress must act now to create jobs, strengthen our middle class, and expand our economy.
