Leader Cantor Commemorates The Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

Statement

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement in advance of the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

"Ten years later, the tragic events of September 11th remain in the forefront of our hearts and minds. On that day, America was forced to think the unthinkable and we were forever changed as a nation. Today, we stand together as a nation to remember the innocent Americans who lost their lives in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania ten years ago. We honor the brave men and women in uniform who continue to keep our country safe and stand with their families. We also remember the courage of the first responders who came to the assistance of their fellow citizens.

"During and following these unprecedented acts of violence, our nation was unified in the wake of the attacks, and communities came together to rebuild destroyed areas. As a result of the steps taken by our intelligence community, the military and first responders to protect our homeland, we have successfully prevented another similar attack. We must continue our bipartisan efforts to improve our national security to ensure such an event never takes place again.

"For the past decade, our dedicated troops have defended our freedom at home and around the world, including Virginia's Navy SEALs who recently brought to justice the terrorist responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Our fight against terrorism, however, is not about the death of a single person and we must remain vigilant against the continued threat from those who wish to do us harm. We will never forget the sacrifices made on and since September 11, 2001, and we vow to continue the fight in memory of those who lost their lives on that day."
