Hultgren Statement On Constitution Day

Statement

Date: Sept. 16, 2011
Location: Geneva, IL

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement commemorating Constitution Day, September 17th.

"September 17th marks the 224th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787. The 112th Congress has returned the Constitution to its rightful place at the center of American government, and I am proud to have been part of that. One day after being sworn in as a Member of Congress, I joined my colleagues in reading aloud the Constitution in the House chamber. We also adopted a rule requiring that every bill introduced by a member of Congress be accompanied by a statement of Constitutional authority, ensuring that every bill is clearly rooted in the Constitution. After too many years when the Constitution was seemingly disregarded by legislators with a big-government agenda, I am proud to be fighting alongside my House colleagues to cut spending and reduce the size of government."
