Constituent Mail Bag

Press Release

From San Diego:

As a constituent, I am writing to strongly urge you to oppose limits on spending for critical safety net programs including Medicaid. It is critical that Congress not impose policies that will shift risks to our states and force deep cuts that will harm children, youth and adults living with serious mental illness.

Medicaid is the largest source of funding for public mental health services and is a critical safety net for youth and adults living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, severe anxiety disorders and other serious mental illnesses. Medicaid provides critical services-- including prescription drug benefits, case management and rehabilitation services--that are vital to recovery from mental illness.

Congress should support smart, long-term changes, such as chronic disease management and integration of care models, that will drive down future cost growth instead of imposing drastic policies that will limit eligibility and benefits for our most vulnerable citizens.

Congressman Filner replies:

Thank you for contacting me regarding cuts to Medicaid.

I wholeheartedly agree! We must ensure Medicaid continues to provide health coverage for low-income Americans and children. Rest assured, I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide affordable, accessible and comprehensive healthcare for all Americans!

I appreciate your advocacy on this issue!
