Luján Statement on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

Statement

Date: Sept. 9, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Ten years ago, the foundation of our nation was shaken to its core when the horrifying actions of al Qaeda took the lives of nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans. In an instant, we saw the worst of humanity; yet in the moments that followed, we saw the bravery, resilience, and heroism that have defined the American people throughout our history.

"Let us remember the men and women who lost their lives in the attacks as well as the brave first responders and concerned citizens who risked their lives to answer the call during our national time of need. We honor those who were driven to service, those who channeled heartache or anger into working for their fellow citizens and communities. As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, let us also seek to recapture the unified spirit under which we as a nation came together to mourn, heal, and persevere.

"My gratitude, thoughts, and prayers are also with the members of the armed forces who are currently serving in harm's way and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation over the last decade."
