Congressman Steve Rothman's Statement on President Obama's Jobs Speech

Statement

Date: Sept. 8, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Rothman released the following statement:

I applaud President Obama for his leadership and his use of bipartisan ideas to put together a proposal that will create good American jobs and get our economy back on track. The Congress must work to stimulate our economy immediately, putting money in the pockets of working Americans, making investments in rebuilding our roads and bridges, and through tax breaks for small business -- proposals that will lead to the job growth that our nation urgently needs.

As part of our nation's efforts to get Americans back to work I am proud to have introduced the Security in Energy and Manufacturing (SEAM) Act, a key component of the "Make in America" agenda. This legislation will provide more than $5 billion in tax credits and grants to American manufacturers whose goods are used in clean energy projects. I agree with President Obama that the United States must take every opportunity to claim our place as the world's leading manufacturer and create stable jobs that pay well and can't be outsourced. The SEAM Act is an important step in that direction.
I call on my colleagues, from both sides of the aisle, to work together to pass legislation that will stimulate our economy as soon as possible. The American people cannot wait any longer.
