U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today released the following statement in remembrance of the tragic events of September 11, 2001:
"The terror that disrupted the blue skies of that Tuesday morning changed all of our lives. Our hearts remain with those who lost their lives on that day, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan ever since, including 58 brave Nebraskans. To them, their families, and those still serving to protect our freedom and ideals, we owe an everlasting debt of admiration and gratitude.
"Though we could never hope to replace lost loved ones or the Twin Towers, reflecting upon the past ten years reminds us of what emerged from the rubble stronger than ever. Our country was founded upon principles of freedom, tolerance, and faith; and the conviction that every human being has an equal right to pursue a better life for themselves and those they love. These ideals have enlightened the world, and helped foster a global belief in a better tomorrow; a belief no act of terror could ever hope to destroy."
