Schilling Statement on August Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Sept. 2, 2011
Location: Moline, IL

Congressman Bobby Schilling (R-IL-17) today issued the following statement after the Department of Labor released the August jobs report, indicating that unemployment remains at 9.1 percent with no net new jobs added to the economy :

"The American people deserve better," Schilling stated. "They deserve a government working to provide certainty to the economic environment so businesses can grow and create jobs. Their success is America's success, and business owners need to know what cards are on the table. It is possible for both sides of the aisle to put old grudges aside and work together for the good of the country - my friend Dave Loebsack and I are locked arm-in-arm when it comes to growing workload at the Rock Island Arsenal and strengthening our local economy. Procrastinating on jobs is an affront to the American people. The time for action is now; not next week.

"I hope that when the President speaks to the nation following this Labor Day weekend, he will urge the Senate to act immediately on the jobs-related bills the House has sent them. Americans are tired of waiting for jobs. The House is tired of waiting on the Senate. This is a red, white, and blue issue that must be acted on without delay."

Schilling and several of his colleagues sent a letter to President Obama urging support of action the House has taken to rein in spending, increase certainty, and grow jobs
