Blog: Labor Day 2011: Honoring Our Nation's Workers

Location: Unknown

This Labor Day -- as families, friends and colleagues get together to celebrate the contributions of workers across the country -- I wanted to share a special message with you.

For more than a century, the American people have set aside this time to honor the contributions working people make to the strength, prosperity and greatness of our country.

So, to those who build skyscrapers, work in them during the day, and clean them at night . . .To those who run into burning buildings when others run out . . .To those who teach our children, care for our elderly and keep our neighborhoods safe and clean. . .To those who descend underground to work coal mines and in gravel pits . . .To those who pick vegetables in our fields, and then cook them for us in restaurants . . .For all the hard working families in this country . . .

Your Labor Secretary wishes you a safe and happy Labor Day.
