Governor Lincoln D. Chafee visited the Misquamicut area of Westerly this afternoon to view the damage sustained during Tropical Storm Irene. The Governor met with local residents and business owners who were affected by yesterday's storm.
"This is the worst coastal erosion that I have seen," Governor Chafee said. "But everyone is pulling together to get local businesses back in shape to have a successful Labor Day Weekend. The Town of Westerly and all of the employees of the businesses we visited today have gone above and beyond the call of duty to clear the streets and help area businesses rebound."
The Governor was joined on the tour by Westerly Town Manager Steven T. Hartford, State Senate Minority Leader Dennis L. Algiere, State Representative Brian Patrick Kennedy, and Town Councilman Caswell Cooke, Jr.
