U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today urged families in North Carolina to be prepared for Hurricane Irene, which is currently expected to hit North Carolina.
"As we monitor Hurricane Irene's path, North Carolinians should prepare the supplies, food, and water needed to keep their families safe," said Hagan. "Our first responders and emergency managers are prepared to act, but I encourage all North Carolinians to learn the evacuation routes and assemble the advised emergency materials to stay safe during a possible hurricane. My office and I are in touch with federal emergency managers, local officials and state officials in Governor Perdue's office, and I will continue to work with them to provide support from a federal level in the coming days."
