Location: Los Angeles, CA

Pledging her commitment to job creation in our country, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) addressed an audience of more than 200 attendees gathered at the annual conference of the Council of Mexican Federations (Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norteamérica.)

Following her remarks, the congresswoman signed the organization's pledge to "support urgent legislation to create good jobs."

COFEM is a non-profit organization serving the immigrant community since 2004. Its mission embraces a community centered approach to promote the advancement of the Latino community through public policy advocacy, educational and cultural programming, strategic mobilization, community organizing, and binational economic development.

Speaking in Spanish, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard made the following remarks:

"COFEM is a model for bringing together community leaders and activists to discuss issues of importance to our neighborhoods and to strategize to create positive change.

A critical piece of this partnership is our labor unions and labor leaders like Mike Garcia and Lophonza Butler who are fighting on the front lines every day to protect America's working families.

The COFEM conference and the partnerships forged through today's Call To Action is an important step in meeting our mutual goals of a quality education for our children, quality health care, a safe environment and jobs, jobs, jobs.

Today's call to action is about creating jobs in our country.

With a weak and vulnerable economy, a nine percent unemployment rate at the national level, fifteen to twenty-three percent in my district alone and millions of families struggling to keep their homes, we cannot reduce our deficit or strengthen America's standing in the world.

America needs JOBS!

That is why House Democrats created the "Make It In America".

The goal of the MAKE IT IN AMERICA campaign is designed to keep American jobs on our shores, create new jobs and strengthen American competiveness in the global marketplace.

Today's Call To Action is the first step to making sure our community's voices are heard loud and clear by our nation's leaders in Washington that American families want jobs and they want them now or they will pay a price at the ballot box in the next election."
