U.S. Rep. Karen Bass released the following statement congratulating the Republic of Korea and the Korean-American community on Korean Independence Day. The statement follows:

"Today I join my Korean American constituents in celebration of Korean Independence Day. Earlier this year, I was honored to visit the Republic of Korea for the first time. The vibrancy of Korean society, generosity of its people, and richness of the culture left me with indelible and meaningful impressions of my time there. That spirit and energy can be felt daily in Los Angeles' Koreatown and in all communities throughout the United States that Korean Americans call home. Our strong alliance, shared values, and common beliefs unite our nations and our people."
