Rep. Maloney Statement on Announced Agreement to Reopen the Federal Aviation Administration

Today Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) issued the following statement after President Obama signed into law an agreement on a short-term extension of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that will enable the agency to end its partial shutdown and allow more than 70,000 Americans to return to work:

"I join tens of thousands of American workers in welcoming today's action, which will bring to an end the partial shutdown of the FAA, a federal agency whose functions are vital to our safety and our economy. This move will enable people working in air transit and airport construction to continue to improve our nation's infrastructure and make air travel safer and more efficient.

"Now we must ensure that tax revenues on air travel that were lost during this completely avoidable crisis will be recouped by the federal government. And I urge my House colleagues across the aisle to negotiate in good faith on a long-term reauthorization of the FAA that will help preserve and grow jobs and respect workers' rights to unionize and engage in collective bargaining.

"Now more than ever, I call upon the House Republican leadership to promote bipartisan solutions to foster job growth not just in the air travel industry, but across the entire spectrum of the American economy."
