Issue Position: Economy and Jobs

Issue Position

In order to get the economy back on track we must focus on creating jobs and getting people back to work. My primary focus during the 112th Congress will be job creation in Minnesota's 8thCongressional District and across the country. So many American's desperately want to work, and it is up to us to implement sound policies and create certainty in the market place which will in turn encourage businesses to hire.

Right now, in the 8thDistrict mining companies are ready to expand and hire skilled workers to responsibly make use of the rich mineral deposits in the ground. Unfortunately, these companies have been forced to wade through mountains of red tape in their attempts to obtain the proper federal permitting. During this process, they have not been able to expand or hire. All Minnesotans have respect for our beautiful state, and I would not support any mining that negatively impacts the environment. But we have to streamline this process and allow responsible American companies to flourish. Therefore, I will work with all appropriate federal and state entities to help move this process along.

It is in all of our best interests to create jobs in America. I look forward to working with all my colleagues in the House to get our economy running on all cylinders.
