Issue Position: Transportation

Issue Position

Michigan gas taxes should not be used to support roads in other states at the expense of our infrastructure. Keeping a greater percentage of these dollars in Michigan will improve our roads. A rule adopted by the current House of Representativesprevents revenue from gas taxes in the Highway Transportation Fund (HTF) from being spent on non transportation projects. Congress should spend user-fee revenues on transportation projects -- not to prop up other federal programs.

Gas prices have a major effect on our transportation sector. Congress is working to open up domestic energy production to increase America's supply of fuel.

Air travel continues to be one of the safest methods of transportation. There are better ways to protect Americans from evolving threats than with invasive full-body scanners. Americans should not be forced to choose between intrusive pat-downs and walking through a scanner that creates a nude image of a person's body using radiation. I am a cosponsor of H.R. 1510, the TSA Screening of Minors Act of 2011. This bill prevents the Transportation Security Administration from performing pat-downs on minors without the consent and presence of a parent.
