Rep. Todd Young to vote "Yes' on Budget Control Act

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) announced Monday evening that he would vote in support of the Budget Control Act when it came before the House for a vote later in the night. He released the following statement ahead of the vote:

"As our country faces the prospect of default tomorrow, an even larger danger looms on the horizon in the form of an unsustainable debt burden. Both of these problems threaten job creation and economic growth at a time when Hoosiers most need relief."

"Throughout this entire process, I've maintained that both of these problems must be addressed at the same time. This package isn't the bold solution some of us were hoping for, but it is a start. This package begins to move us in the right direction through immediate spending cuts; enforceable spending controls; the possibility of a Balanced Budget Amendment; and the chance to save our health care and pension programs from bankruptcy. Most importantly, we won't impose an additional tax burden on families or small businesses at a time they can least afford it."

"This small first step emboldens me to continue pushing Washington to take bigger steps, and in the process I'm hopeful we'll get our economy moving once again. We still have a long haul ahead of us, but I look forward to working with my colleagues, and hearing from my constituents, as we work together to put America back on the right track. I'd also like to thank all the Hoosiers who have contacted our 9th District offices to weigh in and offer your encouragement." --Rep. Todd Young
