Statement on Budget Control Act Passage

Statement

Date: July 29, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Kristi Noem (R-SD) offered the statement below following passage of the Budget Control Act of 2011:

"I have said from the beginning of this debate that in order for me to vote to raise the debt ceiling, the proposal would have to reform the way Washington spends taxpayers' money, make real progress in implementing needed budget reforms, and not raise taxes. This bill, while not perfect, meets those goals.

"Most conservatives in the U.S. House, including myself, would rather see the Cut, Cap & Balance plan enacted, which the House also passed. Today's bill, while imperfect, is still a reasonable solution offered for the stability of our nation.

"With two different House-passed plans to cut spending and help our country avoid default ready for further action, it is now time for the Senate and the White House to put a plan on the table or explain to the American people why they chose default over solutions."
