Kingston Statement on House Plan to Cut Spending, Avoid Default

Floor Speech

Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) released the following statement on the plan outlined by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to cut spending and prevent the federal government from defaulting on its obligations.

"Once again, the House is showing leadership by putting together a proposal. While this is not perfect, it holds the line. It includes no tax increases and provides for more than a dollar in spending cuts per dollar of debt limit increase.

"If the targets laid out are not met, spending caps will be triggered to provide from across-the-board cuts. I am encouraged by this mechanism but will continue fighting for a balanced budget amendment.

"It is clear that we do not control the Senate or the White House but we are getting cuts and spending caps to lead us to balance."
