SHELBY ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR MONTGOMERY AREA

FY 2005 Transportation Appropriations Bill Passes Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D. C. --- U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury and General Government, announced funding for several projects included in the Transportation, Treasury and General Government Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2005. The bill passed out of subcommittee today and is expected to go to the full Appropriations Committee soon.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased to announce funding for many important transportation projects in Alabama. Our bill takes a number of steps to improve transportation throughout the Montgomery area."

The bill directs the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator to give priority consideration to the following airports:

Montgomery Regional Airport (Dannelly Field) for phase III terminal renovation and expansion.

Gragg-Wade Field in Clanton for land acquisition and obstruction removal.

Franklin Field Airport for improvements including land acquisition, aviation and environmental planning, aviation design and construction of a new runway and taxiway.

Moton Field Municipal Airport for land acquisition, runway and taxiway extensions, improvements to the runway safety area, apron expansion and other improvements.

$3 Million - Easter Seals Project ACTION

Senator Shelby said, "Easter Seals Project ACTION promotes cooperation between the transportation industry and the disability community to increase mobility for people with disabilities. These funds will assist them in their efforts to further this program."

$500,000 - Southern Fuel Cell Coalition

These funds will be used to establish the Southern Fuel Cell Coalition which will serve the Southeastern United States. The coalition will work to tackle the challenges and opportunities that face fuel cell development and hydrogen infrastructure in the South.
