No Amnesty. We Cannot Reward Illegal Behavior

I oppose amnesty. Illegal immigration is a serious and costly problem. Florida taxpayers pay approximately $5.5 billion a year for education, medical treatment, and incarceration of illegal immigrants, costing every Florida household $1,117 per year. Providing amnesty to illegal immigrants is unfair to those who have respected the rule of law and entered our country legally.

Secure Our Border

We must secure our border. I have personally toured the US-Mexican border and met with border patrol agents working to protect America. To help address this issue, I voted to help construct at least 700 miles of fencing along the US-Mexican border. I have also cosponsored the Secure the Border Act of 2010 (H.R. 5173) which would double our efforts to construct border fencing and would further add to our aerial and subterranean border surveillance.

The State Of Arizona Has The Right To Secure Its Border

Due to the inactions and failure of the federal government, Arizona passed its own tough immigration law. I support the State of Arizona's right to protect its citizens. I am very disappointed that the Obama administration has decided to sue Arizona and I have sent President Obama a letter asking him to withdraw his legal challenge.

English Should Be Our Official Language

Along with addressing the flow of illegal immigration, we must ensure that the United States shares a common language. Since the founding of our country, we have recognized English as our common language. For this reason, I cosponsored the "English Language Unity Act" (H.R. 997) to make English the official language of the United States. In fact, my record of this policy has earned me an "A in English" award from U.S. English, Inc.
