Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

The importance of education cannot be understated. Schools need the resources to be successful, but let's not also forget that results matter.

The federal government has focused too much on throwing money at education without really evaluating whether that money has helped achieve results. The reality is that while federal spending on education has steadily increased over the years, student achievement has flat lined. It is time to take a more innovative approach.

Accountability, parental involvement and choice are some of the most important components of a successful education system. In Colorado, we raised the bar for high school graduation standards and passed a ground-breaking teacher tenure reform measure. I believe it is primarily up to the states and local governments to pass and implement such reforms. The federal government can help by getting out of the way.
