Sen. Toomey On Cut, Cap And Balance Vote: "Mr. President, Why Do You Oppose A Path To A Balanced Budget?"

Statement

Date: July 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement today following the Senate's vote to defeat the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, which urges the president to join with Congress in putting the federal government on a path to a balanced budget.

"There is only one plan that increases the debt limit, puts our nation on a path to a balanced budget, and has passed the House of Representatives with a bipartisan majority, and that is the Cut, Cap and Balance Act," Sen. Toomey said. "I am extremely disappointed that President Obama and the Democrat leadership have chosen to engage in demagoguery and political scare tactics instead of engaging Congress in a solution that will actually solve our increasingly dangerous debt problem. Over the course of the next week, I urge the president to work with Congress to find a solution that puts our federal government on a path to a balanced budget and helps drive economic growth."
