Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) released the follow statement after the passage of Speaker John Boehner's Budget Control Act (S. 627), which raises the debt limit in two steps while enacting several debt reduction measures. Young voted in favor of the bill, which passed by a vote of 218-210.
"Time and again I have said I wanted to see a common sense debt limit package that credibly begins to address our long-term spending and debt problems so that we can start putting Hoosiers back to work. After carefully studying this proposal, I am confident it puts us on that path to economic security."
"This bill isn't perfect, but it is good. It cuts spending for next year, it implements enforceable spending controls for the rest of the decade, it includes a Balanced Budget Amendment provision, and it contains no increases in tax rates. Many of my colleagues and I campaigned last year on a platform of reining in Washington's out-of-control spending and putting in place structural reforms to change how business gets done. That's exactly what the American people are asking us to do. This bill is a strong first step in that direction. As we continue to work on this with the Senate, we must continue to focus on those priorities." --Rep. Todd Young
