Congressman Renacci Votes for Cuts to Congressional Budgets

Press Release

Date: July 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) voted in favor of H.R. 2551, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act of 2012. H.R. 2551 provides funding for the House of Representatives and Senate, the Architect of the Capitol, the Capitol Police, and several other entities related to Congress. It includes a 6.4 percent cut in funding over last year's bill.

"Many of my constituents have had to make significant cuts to their family budgets during these tough economic times," said Renacci. "As Americans are forced to tighten their belts, so too should Washington. The savings in this bill will not, unfortunately, solve our debt crisis. However, the passage of this legislation in the House shows my colleagues and I understand we need to get spending under control and put the federal government back on a path to fiscal sustainability."

H.R. 2551 would reduce funding for Congress by $227 million compared to last year's bill and by $472 million compared to the president's request for 2012. Spending reductions in the bill include across-the-board cuts from Fiscal Year 2011 levels to individual Member, Committee, and Congressional Leadership office budgets. It now awaits passage in the U.S. Senate.

Congressman Renacci is serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Financial Services Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
