Congressman Scott Tipton's Statement on the President Playing Politics with Vital Social Security Checks

Statement

Rep. Scott Tipton (CO-R) released the following statement in response to President Obama's comments today on debt ceiling negotiations.

"The President today said that that Social Security checks for our seniors, veterans and disabled citizens may be held up if an agreement isn't reached. Republicans have put forward a plan to end Washington's spending spree, begin to pay down our unsustainable debt, preserve Medicare and Social Security, and jumpstart growth in our economy. Meanwhile, the President has continued to stall negotiations and has yet to offer a plan, putting the benefits our seniors and veterans have worked so hard to earn, at risk. It is unacceptable that the President and Treasury Secretary Geithner are playing politics with the livelihoods of more than 70 million Americans."
