Senate Passes $96 Million for MA Military Construction

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) announced that the FY 2012 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill that passed the Senate today included $96,140,000 in funding for vital military construction projects in Massachusetts. Senator Kerry requested this funding in a letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies earlier this year.

"This investment is national security for America and jobs for Massachusetts. I wrote to Chairmen Daniel Inouye and Tim Johnson to emphasize this was a top priority for troops and military families in Massachusetts, and I'm glad this money's going right where it's needed next year," Senator Kerry said.

The following Massachusetts projects will be funded in the Senate FY 2012 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill:

Natick - 182nd Area Support Medical Company

$9,000,000 to Construct a Readiness Center

The 182nd Area Support Medical Company (ASMC) is located in the Concord, Massachusetts Armory which is costly to operate and needs renovation to meet today's building criteria. The funding will go towards the construction a Readiness Center for the 182nd ASMC.

Hanscom Air Force Base

$34,040,000 to Replace Hanscom Middle School

The Hanscom Middle School, located in Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, serves grades 4-8 in the Lincoln School-District where the funds will be used to replace the school and will also make related infrastructure improvements to the school parking areas, mechanical rooms, delivery areas, and playgrounds.

Westover Air Force Base

$23,300,000 to Replace Hydrant Fuel System

Appropriations will go to the Defense Logistics Agency in order to construct a pressurized hydrant fuel system and to modify an existing pump house on the Base.

Attleboro - Army Reserve Center

$22,000,000 for Army Reserve Center/Land Acquisition

The funding will be used to construct a 300-member Army Reserve Center (ARC) in Attleboro, Massachusetts which includes land acquisition and the construction of an ARC training building, the development of an Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) / Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS), unheated storage building, and a Deployable Medical Systems (DEPMEDS) site.

Otis Air Force Base

$7,800,000 for Facility Upgrades

The requested funds will be used to renovate the existing Squadron Operations building at Otis Air Force Base for the incoming Component Numbered Air Force (cNAF) mission and alter two buildings to achieve final operational capability.
