Gowdy: NLRB Pursuing Activist Agenda

Statement

Date: July 7, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Labor Unions

Today, Representative Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement after an Education and Workforce Committee hearing explored new rules proposed by the National Labor Relations Board.

"The NLRB is designed to be an impartial arbiter, not an ideologically driven institution catering to the wishes of one specific constituency. Their recent actions, from the promulgation of rules designed to expedite union elections to the legally insufficient complaint against Boeing, indicate a trend towards political calculations at the expense of fundamental fairness.

"At a time when Union membership is at an historic low, Big Labor is searching far and wide for tactics to reverse their decreasing influence. It appears they have found a willing partner in the NLRB.

"To the detriment of job creators in South Carolina and across the country, the NLRB has undertaken a campaign designed to cripple an employers' treasured ability to communicate with their workers and make decisions based on economic factors. With unemployment still hovering at 9% and our economy still struggling to recover, we must fight for America's employers -- not our political futures."
