CARDIN STATEMENT ON NEWLY NAMED DIRECTOR OF THE EPA CHESAPEAKE BAY PROGRAM

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Water and Wildlife Subcommittee, issued the following statement on the selection of Nick DiPasquale as Director of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Chesapeake Bay Program Office:

"Nick DiPasquale is a terrific choice as Director of the EPA Chesapeake Bay Program Office. Nick has a record of leadership and a passion for the work. He is well respected by the entire range of stakeholders, from past and current colleagues in environmental agencies in Delaware and Pennsylvania to ordinary citizens who recognize his tremendous work in support of the protection and conservation of the Bay. I have been impressed with the commitment of the Obama Administration in the Chesapeake restoration effort. The selection of Nick DiPasquale to this important leadership role strengthens my belief that the Chesapeake is in good hands. I look forward to my continuing work with Nick in restoring this National Treasure.

"Nick DiPasquale currently serves as Delaware Audubon's Conservation Chair. He is a former Secretary of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), having served 3½ years as Secretary from April 1999 to September 2002. Nick also has served as Director of the Environmental Management Center at the Brandywine Conservancy in Chadds Ford, PA, and as Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He returned to Delaware in October 2004, and is a senior consultant for Duffield Associates, a geosciences consulting firm in Wilmington. He is a founding member and president of the Kent County Conservancy, a member of the board of the GreenWatch Institute and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary. Nick has dedicated his life to protecting and conserving natural resources and ecosystems."
