U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today applauded the advancement of several bills he supported to improve services for our veterans. The bills address veteran employment, exposures to toxic chemicals and cost of living adjustment (COLA) benefits, among other things. They advanced out of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee and will now head to the Senate floor for possible consideration. Additionally, Johanns' proposal that seeks to streamline job training programs for transitioning veterans was included in the Hiring Heroes Act of 2011.
"Our veterans make enormous sacrifices to protect our freedoms, and it's our duty to support them when they return. Providing them with the tools they need to transition back to civilian life is one small way we can thank them for their sacrifices. As a member of the Veterans' Committee, I'm honored to support these common-sense efforts to help our men and women in uniform access to imporant benefits."
