Norton selectmen discussed a variety of national and local issues with U.S. Representative Barney Frank (D-Newton) during their Thursday, June 16 meeting.

Frank, who paid a goodwill visit to the selectmen, was in town earlier in the week to participate in the Tri-Centennial parade.

Frank said he hopes to see more highway repair funds filter down to local towns.

"We haven't yet undone the balance of what was done with the Central Artery," said Frank.

Frank invited Vice Chairman Mary Steele to contact his office concerning the possibility of Norton receiving state funds to aid with the senior center in town.

Selectman Robert Kimball publicly acknowledged Frank's help in cleaning up the Shpack Superfund site on the Norton/Attleboro line.

Frank renewed his commitment to pare federal dollars from existing military and space programs to allow state funding for local housing programs, highway construction and repair and catastrophic aid.
