Today, Representative Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) issued the following statement regarding President Obama's announcement that all 33,000 surge troops would be withdrawn by summer 2012, and 10,000 withdrawn by the end of this year:
"Any accomplishments we've had in Afghanistan is to be credited to our men and women in uniform. Their bravery and courage shown every day in the face of danger is commendable and admirable. While our ultimate goal is to bring all the troops home, I worry that withdrawing the troops so quickly could jeopardize the ground that we have gained, and stall the nation building that Afghanistan has achieved over the past decade. Rather than sending conflicting messages to our troops about our willingness to continue the fight against terrorism, we need to devise a plan based on military strategy, not on political games and campaign promises."
