Fincher Introduces Regulatory Balance Act

Press Release

Date: June 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Stephen Fincher (R-Frog Jump) introduced the Regulatory Balance Act. This legislation would require the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine whether or not a proposed regulation would have a negative impact on our Nation's economy. Prior to implementing any regulations that would have an economic impact of $100 million or more, the agencies must perform a cost benefit analysis which would then be reported to Congress.

"The regulations coming out of Washington are taking an enormous economic toll on farmers and the agriculture community." Fincher said. "During these times of economic uncertainty, the last thing we should be doing is adding regulations that drive up costs and stifle growth. We should be encouraging farmers and ranchers to grow their business and hire. Guaranteeing a more transparent, efficient regulatory process that works for family farmers instead of against them, will help improve our economy for all Americans."
