U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson issued the following statement today following statement today in response to Gov. Quinn signing the new congressional district map.
"As I have said repeatedly, this map is a slap in the face to the notion of representative government," Rep. Johnson said. "The process was flawed from the beginning. It was concocted behind closed doors, involved no members of the Republican Party and ignores the wishes of the voters who are affected by these decisions.
"While I believe the lawsuit has a reasonable chance of success, I also believe that the coming months provide an opportunity for me to get acquainted with the people, the communities and the issues that are part of the new 13thDistrict that the Democrats have drawn me in to. I welcome the opportunity to represent the good people of west-central Illinois. I have been warmly received everywhere I've been and I hope to represent them with the same energy and integrity that I've demonstrated throughout my career."
