Today, Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ) released the following statement on the new Iran sanctions:

"We welcome the Obama Administration's action today sanctioning Tidewater and Iran Air. Coupled with the designation of IRISL subsidiaries earlier this week, the sanctions announced today represent a significant action that rightly targets the Iranian regime's deceptive use of air and maritime trade to carry out illicit activities--an area of concern that is also a major focus of the legislation that we recently introduced in the Senate. We hope that these measures will be accompanied by further actions in the weeks ahead that continue to ratchet up the pressure on the Iranian regime. In particular, we remain deeply concerned about foreign companies and banks, including some based in China, that continue to engage in sanctionable activity with Iran. We also urge action against the Central Bank of Iran, which is playing an increasingly important role in facilitating Iran's illicit financial activities."
