Davis Fights for Homeland Security Jobs

On Wednesday, June 22, 2011 Congressman Danny K. Davis succeeded in amending, in Committee, H.R. 901 (a bill to codify the requirement that the Secretary of Homeland Security maintain certain chemical facility anti-terrorism security regulations) to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to report to the Committee on Homeland Security information from owners and operators of facilities covered by the regulations on how the regulations could be revised to spur potential job creation or stem job losses. The Committee adopted the bill, as amended, in a vote of 26-5.

Cook County has a labor force of 2,572,926. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are 229,161 unemployed workers in Cook County resulting in an unemployment rate of 8.9%, slightly below the national average of 9.1%.
