Congressman Brian Bilbray Endorses Use of E-Verify For The County of San Diego

Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Brian Bilbray (CA-50) released the following statement in support of Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Bill Horn's proposal directing County of San Diego officials to explore using the E-Verify system:

"I commend Supervisors Bill Horn and Dianne Jacob for introducing the E-Verify system to the County of San Diego. I have long supported making E-Verify mandatory for all employers because it would create more jobs for Americans and legal immigrants. With our country's unemployment rate at 9.1 percent and San Diego's at 9.6 percent, local and federal lawmakers should be doing everything they can to create jobs. The system is reliable, free, and accessible online which means that persons eligible to work receive immediate confirmation 99.5 percent of the time. Nationwide, over 250,000 businesses currently use E-Verify and 1,300 new businesses sign up each week. As one of San Diego's largest employers, with more than 16,000 employees, I applaud the County of San Diego's leadership in protecting the American worker." -- Congressman Brian Bilbray represents California's 50th congressional district and is Chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus
