Sen. Franken's Statement on Senate Vote to End Ethanol Blenders Credit

Press Release

Date: June 16, 2011

Today, U.S. Sen Al Franken (D-Minn.) released the following statement regarding the Senate's passage of an amendment that would eliminate the Ethanol Blenders Tax Credit.

"I'm very disappointed with today's vote," said Sen. Franken. "I've been working closely with the ethanol industry and we all agree that it's time to reform the blender's credit, but this is a rash and irresponsible way to do it. I will continue to work with Senators Klobuchar and Thune to promote responsible reform and to educate our Senate colleagues on the value the ethanol industry has for American energy independence and American jobs."

The amendment to the Public Works and Economic Development Act was sponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Tom Coburn (R-Nev.) and passed by a vote of 73-27.
