Pelosi: Statement on National Day to Combat Anti-Semitism'

State Washington, D.C.-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today commemorating Israel's first annual "National Day to Combat Anti-Semitism".

"Natan Sharansky and the Israeli Knesset have taken a critical step in raising global awareness of anti-Semitism and religious intolerance by establishing the annual National Day to Combat Anti-Semitism.

"The shocking resurgence and pervasiveness of anti-Semitism abroad reminds us of our responsibility to vigilantly combat hatred, bigotry, and extremism. We must continue to work aggressively to eliminate the ignorance that is the foundation of such hatred and bigotry.

"In the words of Elie Weisel - to remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all. We must be ever vigilant to raise the voices of hope and drown out the voices of hate."
