With America's national debt approaching $15 trillion, and no plan in place yet to make dramatic spending cuts, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) has decided to vote against legislation to raise the debt ceiling:
"It's time for the federal government to cut up its credit cards. We can no longer afford to keep borrowing money for programs -- no matter how well intentioned -- when our national debt is growing by a staggering $4 billion a day. Within 25 years or so, interest on the debt, as well as entitlement spending, will surpass all federal revenues. It's wrong to keep spending this way, and it has to stop. Next week, I will vote against legislation to raise the debt ceiling. We owe it to our children and grandchildren. The best way to get the economy moving forward is to put the brakes on out-of-control government spending."
