Rep. Eshoo Statement on FCC's Progress Towards Implementing the CALM Act

Date: May 27, 2011
Location: Washington DC

Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Palo Alto), the top Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee, today released the following statement:

"I'm very pleased that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken an important step forward to implement the CALM Act, with today's release of a proposed rulemaking. The Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act or the 'Loud Commercial Law' as it's often called, was signed into law last year and will prevent television advertisements from playing at a volume noticeably higher than the programs during which they air.

"My constituents regularly ask me when the CALM Act will go into effect. With the release of this proposed rulemaking, the FCC will have made significant progress towards achieving the implementation deadline of December 15, 2011 and bringing much needed relief to the American consumer."
