Calls for Significant, Substantial Spending Reform

Roby made the following comments after the vote:

"Over the past several years, Democrats in Washington drove our debt up to historic levels. Now, the White House wants Congress to approve billions in more debt without cutting a single dollar in spending. House Republicans rejected that approach tonight. The message is clear: we will not support an increase in the debt limit unless it is accompanied by significant and substantial reforms that put our nation back on track to fiscal responsibility and economic security."

"As Democrats refuse to deal with our budget crisis, House Republicans continue to be the only group in Washington working to cut spending and create a pro-growth economic environment."

"Democrats got us into this mess. They should help clean it up. If the administration wants an increase in the debt ceiling, the White House and Senate Democrats have the responsibility to propose long-term, transformational reforms to reduce the size of government and curb bloated government spending. No lip service. No gimmicks. No smoke and mirrors. It's time for President Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid to come to the table with real solutions. I look forward to hearing what the American people think of their ideas."
