U.S. Representative Bill Johnson was the guest speaker at the Regional Chamber breakfast Tuesday morning in Boardman.

Representative Johnson spoke on several topics, everything from the price of fuel to jobs and a proposed budget change in Medicare. The congressman says there are a lot of misconceptions about the changes and, how it will affect those currently receiving it.

Johnson told 21 News, "The proposal that is on the table, the 2012 Budget, does not change Medicare for current seniors, those being served by Medicare today, and those ten years away from retirement age. It only affects 54-years and younger."

Another topic addressed was the debt ceiling. Johnson says that the "disease of spending out of control" must come to an end and closing tax loop holes is not going to change the current debt situation the country is in.

Johnson is in favor of everybody paying "their fair share of taxes" but adds he is not in favor of raising taxes on anyone in the current economy. Johnson went on to say the thing we need not to do is to punish the job creators.

Johnson says the country needs a new energy bill that taps into homeland resources as opposed to receiving our fuel from overseas.

On the election front for the 2012 presidential race, Johnson says it's too early to come out in support of anyone.
