Pompeo Questions Motives of EPA, Administration in Delay of Boiler MACT Rule

Recent newsindicates the Environmental Protection Agency's systemic effort to increase the price of energy and destroy jobs was finally slowed down this week when the EPA delayed implementing its final rules impacting certain boilers and incinerators. As a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Mike Pompeo (KS-04) has spoken consistently and forcefully about how these new rules would negatively impact U.S. manufacturers and businesses. The EPA's latest rules would harm the ability of companies to keep and create jobs in Kansas and the rest of the country.

Congressman Pompeo issued the following statement:

"After hammering on this openly for months, I'm relieved the Obama Administration has delayed these onerous rules. This represents one small step toward a sensible economic and energy approach that is workable for our job-creating industries. I remain concerned, however, that the President is leading from behind on this issue.

"Last week, House Republicans voted three times to increase access to our own domestic supply. This is the right solution to bringing down the cost of energy and creating jobs in America.

"EPA's decision to delay is a good step, but delaying the rule is not enough. We need to ensure that this job-killing rule never sees the light of day," said Pompeo.

Had these rules gone into effect, companies across the country and a lot of companies in Kansas with certain types of boilers and incinerators would have been confronted with impossible emissions standards and other job-destroying regulations. Congress needs to continue to pressure the EPA to remain focused on keeping our air and water clear and healthy instead of advancing an extreme environmental policy that will only result in fewer American jobs.
