Governor Chris Christie released the following statement on Cuban Independence Day.

"I am honored to join the approximately 80,000 Cuban-Americans living in New Jersey in commemorating the anniversary of Cuban Independence Day. Today, we remember the values and passion of those brave Cubans who more than a century ago fought for freedom and democracy for their homeland. As we mark this important anniversary, let us join Cuban-Americans and pray for the day when freedom and democracy reigns in Cuba."

During an event yesterday in West New York, Governor Christie also proclaimed May 20, 2011, Cuban Independence Day, as "Cuban Heritage Day" throughout New Jersey. A copy of the Governor's proclamation is attached.
