Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., voted to filibuster President Obama's liberal judge nominee for the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Goodwin Liu. Forty-three senators joined Sen. Chambliss in blocking Liu's confirmation.
"I have always said I would not vote to filibuster a judicial nominee unless extraordinary circumstances were involved," said Sen. Chambliss. "Considering the totality of the record of Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals nominee, Goodwin Liu, such circumstances exist now, which is why I voted against cloture and oppose his nomination."
This vote effectively stalls the nomination of Goodwin Liu, as the Senate required 60 votes to proceed. The final vote was 52-43-1.
