U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement after the failure of the Senate to invoke cloture on the nomination of Goodwin Liu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit:
"I am extremely disappointed in my colleagues' failure to invoke cloture on the confirmation of Goodwin Liu, an eminently qualified nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals. This vote represents an escalation in the level of obstructionism faced by a president's judicial nominees and is disrespectful of the very Constitution they claim to be defending. By failing to invoke cloture, the Senate today denied Professor Liu the up-or-down vote the President's nominees deserve."
