Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) is co-sponsoring H.R. 1777, the Relief for Consumers to Reduce Pain at the Pump Act, with fellowRepublican Study Committee Energy Working Group members. This legislation would reduce the burden on American consumers at the gas pump by repealing restrictive energy development policies enacted under President Obama. The bill repeals mandates that cause the price of gasoline to be artificially high, achieves energy security by utilizing our own natural resources including oil shale, curbing frivolous litigation that unfairly delays energy production for consumers, and reducing regulatory and bureaucratic delays that hinder the refining and permitting process. The Republican Study Committee Energy Working Group is chaired by Rep. Bob Latta of Ohio.

"The widespread impact of high fuel prices can be disastrous," said McKinley. "Not only do we pay more at the pump, but businesses large and small lay off workers, cancel plans to expand or just pass the cost on to the consumer as a result of higher energy costs eating into their budgets. We have the resources to become energy independent and yet the Obama administration continues to kick the can down the road. This legislation is moving us in the right direction towards ridding ourselves from dependence on Middle Eastern energy sources. Overregulation and bureaucracy are not what we need when people are paying over $4.00 for a gallon of gas. We need to implement a real energy policy that gets the American people back to work and keeps the money in their wallets and not at the gas pump."
