Senator Jay Rockefeller joined with many of his fellow Democrats Thursday in calling for ending tax cuts for our wealthiest oil companies.

Rockefeller is the second most senior member of the committee.

During the hearing, he said he is dedicated to working on immediate and long term energy solutions to address the rising cost of gas.

Rockefeller says soaring gas prices in the Mountain State have put "an unstable burden on our economy and our daily lives".

He also openly challenged the leaders of those oil companies, and said he doesn't believe many of their claims.

Rockefeller believes we should allow the big oil companies to stand on their own two feet, and put your taxpayer dollars to better use.

Congressman David McKinley also sounded off about gas prices Thursday, but he chose a different target, President Obama, and his moratorium on drilling in the Gulf Coast.

It all started Wednesday when he voted for two measures he thinks will help. One's called the "Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act"; the other is called "Reversing President Obama's Offshore Moratorium Act".

In a statement released Thursday, McKinley said "Not only is the President's moratorium hurting families and small businesses, it is also costing thousands of American jobs. The reckless regulations imposed on the Gulf Coast must stop. We must allow the Gulf to produce energy, provide for responsible environmental and safety protections, so we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil."
