Issues: Abortion

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.

"The vast majority of the American people, regardless of their position on abortion, oppose using hard-earned taxpayer money for the provision of abortion services," said Chairman Price. "As a result, prohibiting taxpayer funding of abortion has enjoyed strong, bipartisan support in Congress in the past. The efforts of our Democrat colleagues to pass ObamaCare last Congress are even more disappointing as they betrayed this long-standing effort to protect the sanctity of life and enacted legislation inconsistent with that prohibition. We vote today to make permanent the prohibition of taxpayer funding of abortion and to fulfill our pledge to protect and value the sanctity of life. This is not a new battle we face, but it is one that requires our vigilance and willingness to take the necessary steps to ensure federal funds are not used for abortion services, consistent with the will of the American people."
